For at home and on the go: you can listen to our podcast The Danish Detective (Dutch and English spoken) via your favourite podcast channel. You can also listen online through the VPRO-site. This is the second series of the Danish Detective, which is being performed live in Theater Kikker in Utrecht in January and February 2019 (dutch spoken).
An ode to my parents will air on Radio 1 on Sunday afternoon, 15 May, 9pm. It is a portrait of Daniel Cross, artistic director of Rosa Ensemble.
His music theatre production Akasha, A brief theatre of everything will premiere at the end of this month on Operadagen in Rotterdam. “My work is actually quite mono thematic’, he says. It’s always about life and death, good and bad. Carine van Santen talks to him about the relationship between Cross’s family history and his work. How does his life story come through in his music? Everything I do is an ode to my parents, he says.
Cross has been the artistic director of Rosa Ensemble since 1997. In Akasha, Cross is inspired by the theory of the Akasha field, a theory that states the past, present and future of the universe are interconnected. With a dizzying mirror decor, Rosa Ensemble literally floats through space.
Rosa is celebrating its 15th birthday this year. The group was founded by musicians from the Utrecht Conservatory in 1997. Since then the group evolved into an appealing and leading music company that excels in mixing contemporary music with pop music and wonderful music theater.
Rosa absorbed the glorious work of Captain Beefheart (“Selling Hoovers in Mojave”) and collaborated with Spinvis, Hans Dagelet, Eric Vloeimans, Jan Jaap van der Wal and Collective 33one3rd. Rosa played in the Netherlands, in Canada, Great Britain, Brazil and Malta. In fifteen years, the Rosa Ensemble built a repertoire exploring all corners of contemporary and popular music. To celebrate its 15th anniversary Rosa released two CD”s: The ‘Anticantate ‘, one of Rosa’s most successful multi media programs, and a greatest hits CD titled ‘Shortbread & Outcakes’, both availiable in a limited edition.
