Falstaff Rivisto (2011)

“Everything in the world is a joke.”

With this sentence Verdi closed his oeuvre. Opera Spanga and the Rosa ensemble give the opera a short hunderd and thirty years later a complete update: Falstaff becomes Falstaff Rivisto.

Falstaff is a happy crook, who continuously falls prey to his own addictions and lack of insight. Every morning he gets up and is trapped in the same trap once again.

Rosa’s composers ‘decomposed’ Verdi’s masterpiece. Acoustic sounds are mixed with electronics, The opera is set against a stage of four centuries of art history.

Sung by familiar Spanga singers Falstaff sounds reborn in the meadow in Friesland.
